Miley Cyrus shares heartache for LA fire victims six years after her own home burned down in Malibu blaze

Miley Cyrus revealed that her ‘soul aches’ for the victims of the catastrophic L.A. wildfires six years after her own home in Malibu was destroyed in the 2018 Woolsey blaze.

The Flowers singer, 32, shared an emotional message to her Instagram stories on Saturday as she expressed that the devastation is ‘heartbreaking.’

The infernos – which include the Pacific Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire – began earlier this week on Tuesday amid strong Santa Ana winds. A number of residents and stars lost their homes this week, including Miles Teller, Mel Gibson and Paris Hilton.

Cyrus shared a pH๏τo of what had been left of her burnt down property that she formerly shared with ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth, at the time.

She then penned, ‘This image hits me hard in the heart today. This is a pH๏τo taken of my front porch in 2018 after losing our house in the Woolsey fires.’

‘It’s a feeling you don’t ever forget. Walking up to the door you would pᴀss through daily, looking forward to being greeted by the ones you love like you always do but instead being met by a pile of ash and rubble.’

Miley added, ‘My soul aches for those who are experiencing this devastation firsthand and I cry for my city.’

‘It’s beyond heartbreaking. Los Angeles represents “living the dream” but the reality today is wreckage and destruction.’

Towards the end of her message, the performer shared links to organizations that she is ‘personally supporting and that are helping fight the fires and support survivors.’

‘Time, resources and dedication from inside and outside of our community will heal us, but it hurts deeply for now…… Love always, Miley.’

Cyrus linked to the Malibu Foundation – which she ‘helped launch’ six years earlier at the time of the Woolsey Fire.

According to the official website, the organization ‘is providing comprehensive, needs-based relief for victims of the January 2025 wildfires – including the Palisades, Eaton, Hurst, and Sunset Fires.’

It is also ‘prioritizing the most vulnerable populations, including low-income families, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and uninsured households.’

In the Palisades Fire alone – which began on Tuesday morning – an estimation of around 5,300 structures have been destroyed which includes homes, churches and schools.

‘I am one of the lucky ones. My animals and LOVE OF MY LIFE made it out safely & that’s all that matters right now. My house no longer stands but the memories shared with family & friends stand strong.’

Miley added, ‘I am grateful for all I have left. Sending so much love and graтιтude to the firefighters and LA county Sheriff’s department!’

She also offered links to those that wanted to get ‘involved’ in efforts to help those affected by the wildfires and typed, ‘I love you more than ever, Miley.’

Hemsworth also uploaded an image of the burned home, and penned, ‘It’s been a heartbreaking few days.’

‘This is what’s left of my house. Love. Many people in Malibu and surrounding areas in California have lost their homes also and my heart goes out to everyone who was affected by these fires.’

The actor reflected on the ‘community pulling together’ and shared that the ‘event is only going to make it stronger.’

Towards the end of the caption, Liam added, ‘I love u guys. I love you Malibu. Thank you to all the hero firefighters around California. It’s going to be a journey to rebuild. Stay strong all…’

Cyrus and Hemsworth had plans to marry at the Malibu property before it was destroyed in the fires. In December 2018, the pair tied the knot at her home in Nashville.

However, the following year, the pair separated – and their divorce was officially finalized in January 2020.

Back in 2023 in a TikTok video, Cyrus reflected on the Malibu home where she wrote her first album тιтled Meet Miley Cyrus.

She stated, ‘The Meet Miley Cyrus record was really where I started writing my own songs as a solo artist.’

‘And so I was working with a producer in Malibu that lived in a house in Ramirez Canyon, which I would’ve never known 15 years later I would be living in that house, which would eventually burn down.’

The songstress then expressed, ‘That house had so much magic to it. It ended up really changing my life.’

Not long after her Malibu abode was destroyed, Miley revealed during an interview for On Air With Ryan Seacrest that she had a premonition that her house would be burned down.

She recalled working with producer Mark Ronson for the track, Nothing Breaks Like a Heart.

‘It’s actually really crazy because I wrote this song with Mark in May, before we actually lost our Malibu house.’

‘And one of the lyrics is “This burning house / There’s nothing left / It’s smoking and we both know it.” It was like this strange premonition.’

Cyrus also recalled Liam’s Instagram post after losing the home and said, ‘Liam posted on his social these love letters that were physically left at our house.’

‘We had these big gorgeous letters that said “LOVE” when you drove up to our house and they actually made it through the fire… and that’s literally and physically all that’s left, so I felt that was really poetic.’

The star added, ‘You can always rebuild a physical structure, but that love that can’t be destroyed, it’s always there and always stayed strong, so that gave me a lot of light during a dark time.’

She later sold her fire-damaged Malibu home for $800K less than her purchase price in 2020.

Aside from the Palisades and Eaton blazes, other infernos have since sparked up this week such as the Kenneth Fire and Hurst Fire. On Saturday, firefighters have been working on a flare up of the Palisades blaze near Brentwood.

1,680 National Guard troops have made their way to Southern California to offer ᴀssistance – as the death toll has now risen to 13.

Other stars that have lost their homes in the LA fires include Mel Gibson, Seinfeld star Julia-Louis Dreyfus, and Gilmore Girls alum Milo Ventimiglia.

However, other celebrity homes survived, with James Woods revealing on Friday that his home had not been burned after believing it had been destroyed just days earlier.
